Who We Are

The Volleyball Market was born in April of 2003. Today the Volleyball Market is the fastest growing volleyball specialty company in North America. Friendly service, attention to detail and a sharp focus on superior customer care have laid the foundation for this explosive growth. The Volleyball Market is a staunch supporter of the grassroots development of our sport.

The founder, President and Head Coach of the Volleyball Market is Greg Saunders, widely recognized as a pioneer in the formation of the volleyball catalog sales industry.

After a short period as a high school history teacher and volleyball coach (1975-76), Greg went to work for AB&S Sporting Goods, at the time the largest team sales specialist on the West Coast. In 1978, Saunders founded the Volleyball Emporium which merged in 1981 with Volleyball Publications (founded by Val Keller), to form the Volleyball One Catalog Company.  Under Saunders guidance Volleyball One became the largest volleyball catalog retailer in the U.S.A..

Since 1969, Saunders has been involved in volleyball on many levels, as a player, coach, referee, and administrator. In fact the entire Saunders family has a long record of service to USA Volleyball and the Southern California Volleyball Association (SCVA), serving as strong advocates of the sport at the junior level in particular. From 1978 to 1981, Greg worked with the SCVA overseeing men's programs and coaches' training education. His wife, Patty, was the first full time office manager, programs coordinator and camp director for SCVA from 1978-1984. During this period, both Greg & Patty also held a variety of volunteer positions with USA Volleyball. After coaching the Loyola Marymount University men's volleyball team from 1980-1984, Greg retired from coaching to focus his full attention on his business career. Today, Saunders serves on the National Advisory Commission of the United States Youth Volleyball League (USYVL), and the Volleyball Market is one of USYVL's corporate sponsors.
